Rook’s Dance

Dancers moved as birds mimicking their actions at nesting time while interacting with blocks of clay, birdsong and each other. They pressed their bodies into the malleable clay and each impression was 3D scanned to capture the impact of their body heat and action before the next impression was scanned and so on.

Performance events with 1 then 2 and finally with 4 dancers to an audience was arranged and data was captured with scanning equipment, thermal sensor imaging and photography. This data was synthesised and made into 3D printed sculptures in plant based resin. The persistent cycles of nature are referenced as the project started in 3D, was transferred into 2D and then back into 3D tangible objects.
